okular features #1

Sebastian Klüger (Candy man from now on ;-)) suggested me to blog about the cool things okular developers are doing, so here i am, starting a bi-daily "okular features" series so you all can know them.

Extraction of embedded files in PDF documents

We are now able to extract embedded files in PDF documents, you can see here a screenshot showing a document with two embedded files. You can access the embedded files via the menu and also via the yellow bar that appears on the top of the screen when the document you have just opened has an embedded file.

Will okular support pdfsync ? It would be nice to click on a pdf and jump to the correct line in the LaTeX source.

how should it support pdfsync? okular is not a latex editor so it can not jump to any line of the latex source, no?

Maybe send a dbus message with some information file name, line number, position in the line. The LateX editor like kile would catch the information and move the cursor to the right position. On the opposite, Kile could emit the LaTeX line where the cursor is and Okular would use the pdfsync file to move into the pdf file.

I saw that Stefan Kebekus had some pdfsync code in kviewshell but I don't understand the relation between kviewshell and okular

@apol: yeah yeah, we know. Actually we are in playground/graphics, but we hope to do the moving in (short) times...

@anonymous and cmiramon: the reverse search feature is quite important for us, as also the DVI format has a similar feature. So, we should create a core structure to support a "reverse lookup", and then adapt the PDF and DVI generators to get the respective information and feed the document with them.
